I Love Jesus But…???

I was doing a little online window shopping a few days ago and came across this t-shirt.  Now I don’t know about you, but when I saw this shirt I experienced mixed emotions. First, as a believer, I find this shirt’s message to not only be a lie but an offensive one!  For the briefest moment I was a tad confused because neither part of the shirt’s message goes together; however, what can you expect from one who thinks it does? In addition, I was deeply saddened by it. This shirt actually reveals the problem with today’s “American Khristianity” that hordes of so-called believers have embraced so heartily.

WORLDLINESS

Many who claim to be followers of Christ are walking in direct opposition to the commands of God. Instead of disciplining ourselves, bringing our bodies under subjection, as new creatures in Christ, so many of us quiet our flesh by stuffing it with everything the world has to offer – and then put a nice Khristian stamp over it! We take our instruction from the world instead of from the Word. Our desires and choices are not godly because we don’t have a heart and mind for God’s way. So many professing khristians are the Jekyll and Hydes of the church; playing nice khristians on Sunday but actually followers of Lucifer every day of the week! That is not the makeup of a true child of God!

Are we enemies of God? We can make our mouths say anything, but what we do and say, our decisions and desires all tell the truth of it. It takes more than talking and singing about being God’s friend. If we love the world’s way of doing things then we hate God! That’s a fact and we can’t change it (James 4:4). To love God is to obey God. To love God is not to make light of His standards. To love God is to live so those of the world will see who God is through us. The light of righteousness should be so bright in us that those of the world hate us as they did Christ. This light of righteousness will either cause the ungodly to run or inquire after our God. What are we doing with the life God has given us? Are we living a lie?  There is no I love Jesus BUT…!! There is only I love Jesus, therefore, I live to PLEASE Him through my obedience to His command.

Khristians today have an aversion to the phrase “don’t do….” But to be a real Christian is to live a disciplined life, one that is different from that of the world. Therefore, the Christian’s life – a holy, sanctified life – consists of things we don’t do. We may not like it, but it’s included in the cost of following Christ.

Therefore, there is no “I love Jesus but…. (put whatever sin fits here).”The Word of God, regarding those worldly habits and things we embrace, is very clear; True Believing Christians must not and do not take part in such things.

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” — Jesus

(John 14:15)

Until next time,

What do you think about it?

What were your thoughts when first seeing this Tshirt?

Do you agree with what it says? Why?

Do you believe that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

Would you consider the message of this shirt a prime example of the dangers of leaven (worldliness)?

Great article. This has been a theme lately in my Bible reading, devotional time, and sermons at church. We are living in the world but not of the world. Thanks for posting this.

  2. Thank you for the reminder to not conform to this world. It’s so easy to get pulled in to compromise!
