7 Tips for Rapid Weight Loss

Hello everybody!

Let’s talk about weight loss today. It is a pretty hot topic all day everyday right? As the years go by it is practically inevitable that we will add weight along the way. I am sure we can all think of a period in our lives where we weighed less than we do now. I have known people whose weight fluctuated so that they had “fat clothes” set aside to accommodate the weight. Whether we gain little or much it is natural for this to occur. The same holds true for our spiritual lives.

We live in this world, and we pick up things along the way. Extra weight bogs us down so that we can’t run this race as we should, and sins that keep us from hearing the instructions of God clearly.  Weights and sins hinder our walk with God. Weights and sins make us too heavy and wide for the narrow path to the kingdom!

Just as we reach a point naturally where we have to take ourselves in hand and cut the fat, we reach the same point spiritually. Therefore, I would like to share 7 tips for rapid weight loss to get in shape for the spiritual race we are running. Let’s get started.

Ah, discipline. Just look around and you will see this is not a favorite subject of most people. Discipline, that is self-control, is something human beings generally don’t like. In the secular world, those who are disciplined are usually those who experience much success. It is the same for those of the Kingdom of God.

…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Heb 12:1) Click To Tweet

The Bible instructs us to LAY ASIDE every weight and the sin that is so easily entangles us. That means we must let it go, and that takes discipline!  We must be disciplined; we must live a life of self-control. In order to experience rapid weight loss we must determine to live a disciplined life.

We may have to tell ourselves “no” sometimes. We may want to eat it but we are disciplined enough say “no.” We may want to do it, but we are self-controlled enough to walk away. We may want to go there, but discipline keeps us from straying from the path. We must know ourselves and be disciplined enough not to do what we know will be detrimental. Can you do that? Are you willing to develop a life of discipline? You are? Great! Let’s continue.

Even if we don’t like it, we need to eat right. To experience rapid spiritual weight loss we must eat a healthy diet of the word of God. Click To Tweet

Believe me; I am not speaking as one who has found this easy. It has been and still is a fight. I am sure you know the pull to choose the sweet treat over the veggies and meat. There was a time when I would read novels or watch movies before I’d even think about the Word. Oh I’ve had times where I’d yo-yo; eat right for a couple weeks then fall right back on the feel good “foods.” In my heart I wanted to read/study God’s Word, but I could never make it a constant part of my life.  I had to call upon discipline!

I had to acknowledge and deal with what hindered me, the unbelief that lingered just under the surface. Then I had to recognize what I was putting ahead of God’s Word and decide what to do about it. I needed to be disciplined enough to make the necessary changes. For me, this meant cutting out novels altogether. It wasn’t the content of my book choices that was the problem. The trouble for me was my desire to read them instead of the Bible. So I decided not to read novels.

This was not easy. I’ve started and stopped too many times to count, but I didn’t give up. Today it has been over a year since I’ve read a novel, and I am well into the discipline of a steady breakfast of the Word every morning. Wooohooo!!!

Will I read novels again? Probably, just not right now. I realize that it is not something I should do at the moment because it would be too easy for me to fall back into the familiar, undisciplined pattern. Discipline is the key here.

What’s hindering you from eating right? I encourage you to search your heart, deal with any underlying issues, and determine to make the necessary changes to eat from the Word of God every day!

Ah, junk food; those enjoyable treats that often tempt us to the point of overindulgence. The treats you eat because you want to and quite often know you shouldn’t. Too much of a “good thing” can lead us down a heavy path that is not as easy to get off of!

In order to lose the excess spiritual weight of this world we must be mindful of what we set before our eyes, ears. Think about what you’re doing; should you limit or cut out television altogether? What about Facebook, cell phones, Youtube, and games? What are you feeding on when indulging in these types of “junk foods?” Get in the habit of questioning yourself regarding what you allow. If you want to drop the easily besetting weights and sins then questioning what you do has to become a way of life. Here are a few to get you started.

We like junk food, but junk food can cause death. Let us discipline ourselves to say no to junk!

What does your environment consist of? Is it conducive to packing on the pounds or losing the weight of the world?

  • What are we piping in?
  • What are we talking about?
  • Who are we talking to?
  • What/who are we entertaining?

We have to clean up our environment, and this means clearing our circle of those who encourage ungodliness.

Stop forming inappropriate relationships with unbelievers. Can right and wrong be partners? Can light have anything in common with darkness? (2Co 6:14 GW)

The Lord says, “Get away from unbelievers. Separate yourselves from them. Have nothing to do with anything unclean. Then I will welcome you.” (2Co 6:17 GW)

As we put on weight we also pick up toxins. Detoxification is a must if we are going to lose the weight rapidly. So we should always empty our hearts and minds by confessing our sins and weaknesses to God. His eyes are in every place, He knows we have packed on the weight and sin of this world, and He knows each and every one of our weaknesses. So let us determine to lose the weight by detoxing regularly through the confession of our sin and weaknesses to our Almighty Father.

In order to lose the weight and keep it off we have to exercise right? Right! So build those faith muscles. Exercise your faith every day!

  • STUDY THE BIBLE
  • Apply the Word of God; DO what it says.
  • Get rid of stinking thinking; bring your thoughts under subjection {have a disciplined mind}.
  • Watch your mouth! Bring your words under subjection {be disciplined in what you say}.
  • Build your faith. Start with simple things and build your way to stronger and stronger faith. {“If you can’t believe God will heal a headache how will you believe He will heal cancer? You can’t! You have to start small and build your faith” This advice on how to build your faith was given to me and it works. I used to think I should just automatically have strong faith. You have to develop your faith as you continue to learn God and apply His Word. Try it!}
  • Trust God, even when you don’t feel like it or when doubt tries to rise, maintain your determination to trust GodStay in contact with the Lord. Pray regularly and consistently. Don’t just talk, take time to listen. Are you feeling weak? Talk to your Mentor! Feeling tempted? Talk to your Mentor! God knows what you need when you need it. Don’t be afraid to run to Him when you need Him. He is there for you and it is His desire that you succeed in laying down the weights and sins in order to remain unspotted from this world.
