MERCY

MER’CY, n. [L. misericordia.]

1. That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant. In this sense, there is perhaps no word in our language precisely synonymous with mercy. That which comes nearest to it is grace. It implies benevolence, tenderness, mildness, pity or compassion, and clemency, but exercised only towards offenders.

Mercy is a distinguishing attribute of the Supreme Being.

Thanks for the reminder to show mercy to others. It is an undeserving thing, how God is merciful to us each and every day. If we’re striving to be like Him we must do the same.

Lord, help us to always show mercy unto others.

    Blessings!

    1. Hello ChildoftheKing,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think mercy is one of those things we often take for granted. We don’t think about it, especially when it comes to our treatment of others. All too often pride takes the helm and everything is about us and how we feel and what we thing etc… Reading James 2:13 is quite humbling, especially when we discover what mercy actually is. God’s mercy freely given to us, and we had better find ourselves showing the same love and kindness (in the form of mercy) to others. Some may say its hard, but we can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens us. God equips us to do what He requires us to do.
      God be with you!
